Mardie Rees

Biography

Mardie Rees was born in Gig Harbor, Washington where her desire to create became apparent at an early age. Her childhood was spent drawing, reading, and contributing efforts to the family business of custom homebuilding by plastering walls and tiling floors. In 2000, Rees began her studies at Laguna College of Art and Design, in Laguna Beach California. After being introduced to figure sculpture, she discovered her love for working three dimensionally. Rees received her BFA with honors in 2003 and returned to the Northwest to set up her studio.

Rees has participated in numerous shows throughout Southern California, the Pacific Northwest, and the East Coast. In 2007, she was selected to sculpt a life size figure of St. Anthony & Child for the lobby of Gig Harbor’s new Franciscan hospital. Mardie achieved First Honor Award in 2010 from Portrait Society of America’s International competition for her portrait bust, “Truth Beloved.” Other awards include Gold Medal of Honor from Allied Artists of America’s 97th Annual Exhibition and Finalist in Sculpture for Art Renewal Center’ Salon 2009/2010.

Rees has also completed several commissions for families to capture their special moments in the bronze media, and enjoys working with individuals to realize a one‐of‐a‐kind creation.
