Mario Pitanguy

Biography

Mario Pitanguy was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has had an intimate relationship with art since his childhood. At age 14, he started studying drawing, and at 16, painting at Fine Arts Brazilian Society (SBBA).

After a long artistic break, at 26, Mário discovered his passion for sculpture and decided to leave all other art expressions behind to study sculpture exclusively.

In 2005, he attended the Fine Arts Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ; in 2011 he studied with the prestigious Andrew Carlse and Eric Wilson in California – USA; and in 2012 he attended the Florence Art Academy—Florence to study figurative sculpture. Mario Pitanguy works as a professional sculptor since 2008, and has commissioned bronze sculptures all over Brazil.
