Antonio Tobias Mendez

Biography

Antonio Tobias (Toby) Mendez has been creating sculpture for over twenty-five years, creating monuments, memorials, and other public art works around the United States. He is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, BFA, where he learned and practiced the processes involved in bronze casting. This afforded him the early opportunity to cast his work in to bronze and to accept commissions.

He has continually focused on his personal works for galleries and has brought his approach to the figure to his larger public works, creating over two dozen public art projects with clients such as:

  • The United States Navy Memorial in Washington DC
  • The Thurgood Marshall Memorial for the State of Maryland
  • The Nolan Ryan for the Texas Rangers Ballpark
  • The Teammates for the Boston Red Sox at Fenway
  • The Don Shula Monument for the Miami Dolphins Football Stadium in Miami, Florida
  • The Major Taylor Memorial, in Worcester, Massachusetts

Toby accepts private commissions, creating portraits of children and adults. He was elected as a professional member of the National Sculpture Society (NSS) in 2007.
